I’m afraid I have some sad news today.
Remember the vlogging couple Sam and Nia from last week, who had the wild twist on a pregnancy
announcement video? (ICYMI, husbby Sam actuallysurprised the wife with her own pregnancy news after he used a home pregnancy test on a covertly-obtained sample. The video went viral, not surprisingly, thanks to that unexpected twist.)
In a new video post titled “Our Baby Had a Heartbeat,” the couple announces that they have lost the pregnancy.
“Those of you who have experienced miscarriage before—I can relate now. I have felt my womb emtpy out. I never knew that women felt that way,” Nia says in the clip. “Maybe there’s someone out there that’s going through this with us… I am mourning with those of you who are feeling this.”
Sam adds that the experience of greiving has both bonded the couple, as well as helped them feel renewed gratitude for their two children. He ends the video by saying to all the fans of the couple’s video blog, “We love you, and remember to love each other.”
Considering how sad any miscarriage news is, Sam and Nia’s decision to share it openly is a beautiful one. In doing so, the pair joins the likes of Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, who recently announced their own baby news along with details of their past struggles to conceive—including multiples miscarriages.
I’m sending deepest condolences to Sam and Nia.
And on behalf of everyone, I’m also sending gratitude to the vloggers, the Zuckerberg-Chan family, and anyone else who helps bring such a sad topic out into the light by bravely disccusing their personal experiences—something that stands to help so many people.
